Conference of the Universities of Serbia has been established on October the 18th 2005, based on the article 18, Law on higher education (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia 76/05), for the purpose of coordinating work, identifying common policies, realizing shared interests and performing activities defined by the law. It gathers 17 accredited universities from Serbia that around 250.000 students and more than 20.000 professors and researchers. The aim of the CONUS is to coordinate the activities of all accredited universities, public and private, by creating common policies and enabling realization of shared interests.
CONUS shall perform its roles through the Assembly and the Rectors Council. The CONUS Assembly consists of rectors and of the representatives of member universities (vice-rectors mostly) in proportion to the number of students, professors and associates at each member university. The Rectors Council of the CONUS consists of the members’ rectors. During the fifth CONUS Assembly, which takes place from October 1st 2018 to September 31st 2021, the CONUS is chaired by the rector of the University of Belgrade, Professor Ivanka Popovic. The vice presidents are Professor Miladin Kostic, rector of the State University of Novi Pazar and rector of the Singidunum University – Professor Mladen Veinovic.
